Digital Foreshadowing

Σ shares my affinity for computers. For a variety of reasons, she also shares my childhood lack of access to computers.

Entirely different reasons, mind you.

That means when she’s with me she tends to go a little nuts online. Today was a case in point.

Champagne Nightmares

I’m in the 2T for the weekend. Between yet another night of little to no sleep, the drive from the Command Center, containing Σ and Mom watching a 1968 rerun of The Lawrence Welk Show not 15 feet from me, I believe I’ve met the perfect storm.

Welk1960

The perfect storm of my undoing. A one and a two ….

It’s an inescapable wave of fatigue and setting lotion. Damn near impossible to avoid under these conditions.

Friday Crap Roundup XX

It’s Friday evening, and the Command Center A/C unit has been fighting a losing battle against the elements all day.

hotthermostat

Or 99 degrees outside as of this writing. Yup. It’s a hot one.

Right, so I’d better finish this FCR before it gets even more uncomfortable.

In Search of a Larger Stream

I spent today doing something resembling real work. Shocking, isn’t it?

Over the past 24 hours SB and my other sites have earned a grand total of … 13 cents. Since I don’t live in Bangladesh, I need to improve upon that number.

Contrary to popular belief, Idaho isn’t that cheap.

Unfortunately, I’ve run into some problems ….

History Wednesday: Skipping Technlology

When I’m not blogging or herding cats, one of my favored pastimes is borrowing CDs at the library down the street. The scheme is simple. First, I log on to my account, find CDs and put them on hold. When they make their way to my library branch, I check them out. Then I take them home, rip them, and bring them back in short order. Rinse and repeat. It works out well.

Thus far I haven’t had many problems with scratched CDs.

It works until CDs become completely obsolete, anyway. While we wait for that, let’s take a look back at where CDs came from, shall we?

Running Low Across the Board

I don’t mean to sound sexist in any sense, but I’m increasingly of the opinion that I need a personal assistant more than a girlfriend.

I promise it wouldn’t turn into an Andy Dick situation.

Why’s that? Well, the plain truth is I’m probably more of a bachelor than even bachelors should be. It’s getting that bad around here.

Messing With Spammers, Part Deux

Y’all have one track minds. Nearly four months later, “Messing With Spammers” is still SB’s most-read post, and “gr8tits2play” is still its top search term. In the case of the latter, second place isn’t even close. This in spite of my ongoing efforts to provide high quality content, or something.

220px-Strom_Thurmond

“Strom Thurmond takes a dump” remains my favorite search term to date.

Well, fine. I know how to take a hint.

The Sunday Doldrums

As a writer, I really hate having absolutely no inspiration whatsoever. Recently Sunday evenings have been the worst. It’s hard to write about your condition when you have no condition.

I’ve often wondered out loud if I should start taking Sundays off from SB, but to date I haven’t made any sort of firm commitment.

Sleep: Why Bother?

A couple months ago I attempted to reset myself by staying up all night and throughout the next day. It didn’t help much, but at least then I did it on purpose.

Today’s “reset” was totally inadvertent. I tried to get some sleep earlier, but weird dreams are all I have to show for it.

As usual I don’t remember details, but they involved wearing remnants of Georgia State Route 40.

Friday Crap Roundup XIX

It’s the longest day of the year! Well, it is if you’re in the Northern Hemisphere.

Expect 50s in Canberra this weekend. They call it “winter.”

Anyway, a good many of you get to read the 19th installment of the FCR by daylight.
