“Other” Revelations

It’s amazing how quickly a subject for this blog sometimes presents itself.

Since Σ and I are going to Portland in a couple days to see Rush, she’s staying with me beginning tonight. Having just put her to bed, I was resigned to writing tonight about how she’s looking forward to an all-day car trip to Oregon’s I-5 corridor to … “go to the mall.”

Which, as I told her, makes about as much sense as going to Japan to eat at McDonald’s.

As it turns out, you can thank the UK’s Daily Mail for saving you from reading about that.

Geared Up for Frustration

There’s no doubt about it, Boise is a great town for bicycles. Now while one doesn’t see the waves of two-wheeled humanity one would expect in places like Beijing, bicycles remain very popular. Yup, that includes the occasional motorized bicycle.

Although I’m not ready for the motorized version just yet, a couple months ago I figured it was a good idea to get back on this bandwagon.

Turns out I’m still trying.

Friday Crap Roundup XXIII

My fundamental quandary, conveniently encapsulated in flow chart form:

sleepflowchart

Oh Mr. Flow Chart, you have no idea ….

In spite of it all, I still have the energy and desire to write the FCR, albeit a short one this week.

You’re On Report!

Last week’s writing primer proved to be very popular. So much so that I’m seriously considering devoting Tuesdays at SB to a writing workshop of sorts. I’m glad y’all enjoyed it.

When I wrote last week I wasn’t thinking about writing as a school assignment. I personally haven’t done anything like that in over 15 years. However according to my search stats that’s what people want to read about. I should have known better.

It takes a special kind of mutant to do what I do.

This week, I’m happy to oblige.

Ignoring a Milestone

“So, how does it feel to be 40?”

Yup, I officially entered my fifth decade today at 8:46 a.m. Command Center time. So far 40 feels … tired.

Well, OK. Not THAT tired.

Nevertheless, I purposely didn’t plan anything today. That truly was for the best.

Selling Out To the Yahoos

There was good news of of sorts today. Rick Perry, the longtime yahoo Texas governor, announced he would not run for re-election in 2014. Whatever happens next, I strongly suspect Texas will be the better for it. Come to think of it, he’s not the only yahoo worthy of retirement.

But here in Idaho, I don’t think we’re that lucky.

And that right there is already more about politics than I wanted to write about.

Constantly Upgrading … Maybe

My experience is Sunday is the hardest day to write. It has nothing to do with religion. It has everything to do with an utter lack of stimulus. So today I’m out and about. While I love my Chromebook, its battery life leaves something to be desired. But hey, no pressure!

Anticlimax on Benjamin

Nine days until 15 July. That’s all I have left until I turn 40. As if that wasn’t weighing on me heavily enough, by sheer coincidence my driver’s license was set to expire that day as well. Like many people, I’ve come to look forward to a trip to the DMV in the much the same way I look forward to a Drano colonic. The midlife crisis element made it just that much worse.

As the late, great Leslie Nielsen might have said, it left me hollow.

Nevertheless, yesterday I ventured out to the Ada County offices on Benjamin Lane to keep myself legal and stuff. Hell, at least it gave me good material to write about over the weekend.

Or so I thought anyway ….

Friday Crap Roundup XXI

Wow, it’s Friday already? This week went by quick.

I guess that’s what happens when you sleep through it.

Well, I suppose I should get started with this week’s FCR, or something ….

Champagne Nightmares

I’m in the 2T for the weekend. Between yet another night of little to no sleep, the drive from the Command Center, containing Σ and Mom watching a 1968 rerun of The Lawrence Welk Show not 15 feet from me, I believe I’ve met the perfect storm.

Welk1960

The perfect storm of my undoing. A one and a two ….

It’s an inescapable wave of fatigue and setting lotion. Damn near impossible to avoid under these conditions.
